Legend is a word that gets thrown around a lot but when it comes to Justin Strauss, there isn’t a word to better describe him. Justin was just 17 when his glam rock band Milk ‘N’ Cookies got signed to Island Records in the 1970s. This lead to him spinning of some of New York’s most fabled clubs, starting at the Mudd Club and spinning his way through The Ritz, Limelight, Area and Tunnel.
Over the years he’s also built up a reputation for his production skills, remixing and producing more than 200 records, working with artists like Depeche Mode, Tina Turner, B-52s, Luther Vandross, Malcolm McClaren and Goldfrapp. In 2016, he’s still doing his thing in the city and abroad and is one half of synth-focused duo a/jus/ted, alongside Teddy Stuart, as well as part of Whatever/Whatever with Bryan Mette.
He’s a regular fixture at Good Room where you can catch him in the Bad Room once a month doing Love Tempo with his partner in crime Billy Caldwell. Billy also comes from quite the legendary background, cutting his teeth at the Hacienda, and together the pair throw an all out riot playing anything and everything they want. We asked Justin to share five of his favorite tracks ahead of Love Tempo this Saturday night at the FIXED party.
Garden of Tears – T&P – BIS Records .
T&P are Tim Sweeny and Phillip Lauer. Huge fan of Lauer and Tim and his label are consistently doing great things and I just love the vibe of the track.
This Machine Kills Me – Crooked Man
Really into this and a lot of the stuff he’s been putting out. Looking back and looking ahead.
Tribute #4 – Tee Mango – MillionHands Records
The latest on MillionHands. Sample house at its finest.
Moth To The Flame (Whatever/Whatever Mix) – Chairlift – Columbia Records
Just completed Whatever/Whatever remix I did with Bryan Mette. ***Soon to be released***
Release Your Body To The Best – Mike Simonetti feat Santana – 2MR Records
(I) love the old school acid and cool vocal on top. Great track on Mike’s great new label.
Justin Strauss is playing with Billy Caldwell as Love Tempo in the Bad Room on April 2. The party is free with RSVP here.
